The information we collect and use
Personally-Identifying Information. You do not have to disclose any personally-identifying information to use most of the features of our website. The only personally-identifying information that Kindred Biosciences, Inc. gathers through this website is information you voluntarily provide to us. Our Policy recognizes that Personally-Identifiable Information includes, for example, name, address, telephone number, e-mail addresses, billable information, employment status and “click stream” data that tracks user activity on a Web site or online service.
Questions and Requests for Information. If you provide us with your name, email address and/or other personally-identifying information when using our website to ask a question or request information, we use this information to respond to your request or inquiry for our products, programs, services and offerings, and to offer you other products, programs or services that we believe may be of interest to you. We may also forward your e-mail to other Kindred Biosciences, Inc. employees or employees of Kindred Biosciences, Inc. partners who are best able to answer your questions.
We sometimes use this information to communicate with you, such as to notify you when new resources are available, when we make changes to online or print products and services, and/or fulfill a request by you for an online newsletter. Kindred Biosciences, Inc. may on occasion combine information we receive online with offline or outside records to ensure we provide you the best experience when receiving online and offline marketing materials and communications about products or services you may have an interest in.
Registration for Events. From time to time, we may use our website to host online registration forms for lectures, seminars or other events sponsored by Kindred Biosciences, Inc.. If you use our website to register for an event, we will collect personally-identifying information from you (such as your name, address, company and position, telephone number and/or email address). We may use this information to send you materials relating to the event, to create a reservation in your name and to confirm your plans to attend. We may also share your registration information with any co-sponsors or event partners that are identified on the online registration form. Use of your personally-identifying information by these co-sponsors or event partners will be governed by their respective privacy policies, which may be different from ours.
Online Surveys. We may also host online surveys on our website. If you choose to participate in one of our online surveys, we will collect personally-identifying information from you, such as your name, address, telephone number and/or email address, and questions on assorted topics. We may use this information to send you the results of the survey and/or a confirmation of your individual survey responses. Cookies. To help us tailor our website to the needs and interests of our visitors, we keep track of the pages visited by our users by placing a cookie, a small entry in a text file, on our visitors’ device. A cookie assigns a unique numerical identifier to your web browser, and may enable us to recognize you as the same user who was at our website in the past, and relate your use of the website to other information about you. Generally, cookies are sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognizes that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognize a user’s device and improve the user’s experience during their visit.
Our website uses several types of cookies, including ‘essential website cookies’, ‘functionality cookies’, ‘analytics cookies’ and ‘advertising cookies’:
Essential website cookies (from us): These cookies are essential to enable you to move around our websites and use their features. These cookies don’t gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you have been on our site. These cookies are often session-specific, expiring after your visit (session) to the website has ended.
Functionality cookies (including from us and YouTube): These cookies allow our website to remember choices you make (such as your user name, language or region you are in) and provide enhanced, more personal features.
Analytics cookies (including from partners such as, but not limited to: Google Analytics and Quantcast): These cookies are used to collect information about how visitors use our sites, including the number of visitors, the websites that referred them to our websites and the pages that they visited on our website. We use this information and aggregate this data with data on the pages visited by other users to track overall visitor traffic patterns. We also use this data to compile reports and to help us improve our website, for example, to understand how visitors use our site and by ensuring that users find what they are looking for easily.
Advertising cookies (including from partners such as, but not limited to: Doubleclick, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo and YouTube): These cookies are used to collect data about the websites and individual pages that users visit both on and off our website (which might indicate, for example, your interests and other attributes). They are typically used to deliver advertisements which are more relevant to you and your interests, and to help measure the effectiveness of an advertising campaign. This information is shared with other organizations such as advertisers and our partners, who might use it with information about how you use other websites, including to identify shared interests and behaviors across groups of users who visit our (and other) websites.
For more information about third-party advertisers and how to prevent them from using your information, visit the National Advertising Initiative’s consumer Web site at www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ or Aboutads.info at www.aboutads.info/choices/
In addition, the “Help” function on most web browsers contains information on how to set your browser to notify you before accepting a cookie or to disable cookies entirely.
Browser Level Information. Our web server automatically collects limited information about your computer configuration when you visit our website, including the type of browser software you use, the operating system you are running, the resolution of your computer monitor, the website that referred you, and your IP address. (An IP address is a numerical address that identifies your computer to other computers connected to the Internet so that data — such as the web pages you want to view — can be transmitted to you.) We use this information to make our website as useful as we can for as many users as possible.
Protecting the privacy of children
Our website is not directed to children and we will not knowingly allow anyone under the age of 13 to use this website to provide us with any personally-identifying information. Children should always get permission from their parents before sending any information about themselves (such as their names, email addresses and phone numbers) over the Internet. If you are under 13, please do not provide any information about yourself on this website.
